Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE)
The multidisciplinary Department of Geography and Spatial Science aims to integrate fundamental knowledge and skills that contribute to shaping the future by working to: address climate change; conserve biodiversity; create liveable cities; support resilient communities; advance food security; increase social inclusion and fairness. The department offers distinctive programs in human and physical geography, environmental geography, mathematical and quantitative geography, spatial analysis and modelling. Students are trained to develop skills, and values to improve these relationships. The themes are designed to develop and deepen the ability to interpret and explain the occurrence, distribution, and inter-relationships of the earth's physical and social phenomena. The aim is to promote the philosophy of the geographer of interpreting the constantly changing physical and human landscapes of the world. The themes are designed with the recognition of the reality that many and varied opportunities are available to the graduates of the department since it is not possible to recognize any single career path in geography and environment. The many different careers that department’s graduates pursue require an educational experience that emphasizes both breadth and depth while applying innovative solutions.
